I. Pres-story activities:
1. Let’s talk:
①How are you? → I’m fine/ happy.
②Do you like English? (Ss: Yes, we do.) → I’m happy to hear that. (Bb: I’m … to hear that.)
③What can you hear? → a telephone (Teach: telephone)
④Do you have a telephone at home?
⑤Can you make telephone calls? → (Bb: a telephone call)
⑥Can we make telephone calls in class? (Ss: No, we can’t.)
→ T: We can’t make telephone calls in class. But today we can. Why? Because we are learning how to make telephone calls in English today.

Task 1. Listen and choose.
Ss listen to the first telephone call and choose to answers. T helps explain the new words: cough, headache, cold, fever.

Task 2. Think and say:

T: Yang Ling is ill. She has a cold and a fever . She can’t come to school today. Miss Li calls her and she is fine now. Her classmates care about her and they make telephone calls.
